Adapter for all-in-one monitors

The linecard of semiconductor manufacturer Epson (Japan) also includes the well-proven Series S1D13xxx LCD controllers. For developing applications with these controllers, Epson provides the Series S5U13xxx EV kits. These kits are equipped with box header connectors for connecting a host processor (or PC) on the input end and the respective LC display on the output end. The following table shows the most important products of both series:

However, LC displays usually do not have connection cables that can be run directly to a box header. This also applies for the COM64T6108ZSP and COM80T8102ZSP all-in-one monitors by Casio, which are designed to use a ribbon cable (FFC 32-pin). The best way to connect a ribbon cable of this type is with a ZIF connector. Consequently, one solution to the aforementioned connector problem is an adapter card on which a box header and a ZIF connector are connected to one another in a suitable manner.

Now SE Spezial-Electronic has developed an adapter card of this type for its customers. The adjacent picture shows this card, mounted with a 40-pin box header connector, a 32-pin ZIF connector, two jumpers and a capacitor. This board facilitates the making of a quick connection between the Epson EV kits and the 6.4"/8.0" all-in-one monitors by Casio.

The signals of the box header are lead via two double rows of solder terminal lugs to the ZIF connector. The connections between the two double rows can be separated and rewired in order to also connect displays with 32-pin ribbon cables with different pin assignments. In the interest of trouble-free functioning, however, this free wiring, however, should be kept as short as possible.
The adapter card can be mounted with up to four jumpers, with which one conductor each of the display interface can be connected to ground or power:

We will be happy to support you in developing an adapter of your own. To this end, attached, you will find the CAD data (Eagle files) for PCB manufacturing that can be used however you like. The library for the 32FLZ-SM1-R-TB ZIF connector plug is likewise attached. However, SE Spezial-Electronic makes no warranties whatsoever regarding the correctness of the circuit diagram, pcb data and library.

Moreover, for fast testing of the 6.4"/8.0" all-in-one monitors with Epson EV kits, we can also lend you the aforementioned (completely mounted) adapter. For this, please contact the product management team specified in the info box.
