Driver circuit for 6 white LEDs

The new MAX8821 module has the functions LED driver (for 6 white LEDs), audio amplifier (2W) and low-drop-out voltage stabilizer (double, low noise). Combinations of this type are suitable, for example, for GPS units, MP3 players and camcorders.

6 LEDs are operated with constant current and can be dimmed individually from 25.6 to 0.1 mA (32 increments). The efficient 2-watt Class-D amplifier uses active emissions limiting (AEL) to reduce interference. Additionally, the combination of fixed frequency mode (FFM) and spread spectrum mode (SSM) types of modulation leads to low radio frequency radiation (EMI).

Two LDO voltage stabilizers provide low-noise output voltages with currents up to 200 mA or 300 mA respectively. Each output voltage can be individually programmed via an FC interface. Both LDOs have a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 65dB at 1 kHz. The input voltage range of the MAX8821 is 2.7V to 5.5V.
