ECOsine™ filters reduce grid harmonics

Schaffner recently presented its ECOsine™ series of power-quality filters. The new passive harmonics filters are the ideal solution for three-phase equipment with 6-pulse rectification on the input, e.g., AC and DC motor drives. It reduces the harmonics to a THID value under 5% and ensures compliance with the most stringent requirements in accordance with IEEE 519 and other international standards for grid quality. Rectifier peak and RMS input current are reduced so much that a nearly pure sinus current is drawn from the grid.

ECOsine™ harmonic filters are available in two versions, one for 50Hz grids (FN 3410 series) and the other for 60Hz systems (FN 3412 series). They can easily be selected on the basis of the actual input of an individual non-linear consumer or a group of consumers. Their compact package makes it possible to install them right inside the electrical cabinet next to the drive. A simple plug-and-play concept allows for quick installation, wiring and commissioning, without the need for system analysis or the involvement of highly trained specialists.

A built-in monitoring system constantly measures the filter temperature, checks the internal fans and provides an NC/C contact for seamless integration in a machine or systems control unit. ECOsine™ FN 3410 filters are suitable for 380-500V, 50Hz grids and for nominal power ratings of between 4 and 160kW. FN 3412 filters are suitable for 440-480V, 60Hz grids with standard nominal power ratings between 5 and 250HP. All filters are UL approved, bear the CE mark, and are RoHS compliant.
