The new serial module OBS421 operates by the current Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR standard and will also support the new Bluetooth 4.0 + low energy standard as dual mode module by a free firmware update which will be available beginning of 2012. With a range of up to 300 m and a net data rate of up to 1.3 Mbit/s, it fits in between the modules  OBS411 and the OBS433 (long-range) in regards of radio.

Owing to an implemented Bluetooth stack, a particularly simple user interface (API) is available. As dual mode module, the OBS421 can – in addition to standard Bluetooth connections – also support sensors operating by the new Bluetooth low energy standard, for example. Therefore it is particularly well suited as central communication instrument.  connectBlue can also provide fully developed Bluetooth low energy end devices (for example for sensors) on demand.

With its interfaces (UART, LEDs, GPIOs) the OBS411 perfectly fits itself into the connectBlue standards existing for more than 10 years. Therefore an exchange of the older modules of the series OEMSPA3xx and OBS4xx is easily possible. By the module OWS451, also a serial dual-band WLAN module operating by IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n, which also has these interfaces, is available.
