With the new WLAN modules WLM100 and WLM101 of Laird Technologies the WLAN connection of industrial applications into WLAN networks is especially easy. The module offers a WLAN connection by IEEE 802.11 b and a control by the SPI or UART interface. The completely implemented TCP/IP stack allows a system structure with cheap and easy to program 8 bit microcontrollers.  

The module is optionally equipped with an internal antenna (WLM101) or with an U.FL connector for the connection of an external antenna (WLM100). The transmission power can be up to 18 dBm, the input sensitivity is specified at -92 dBM. This leads to ranges of up to 100 m, depending on the surroundings.

The network protocols UDP, TCP/IP (IPv4), DHCP, ARP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS (client and server) and the security protocols WEP, WPA/WPA2–PSK, Enterprise, EAP-FAST, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, PEAP are ensuring a stable and secure communication in almost every industrial WLAN infrastructure. Of course, the WLM10x also supports the ad hoc mode which enables a fast point to point connection of two devices.

The module WLM10x is very compactly constructed (36.8x22.9 mm) and SMD mountable. The operation temperature range is stated as -40°C to +85 °C.

As the module WLM10x of Laird Technologies is already comprehensively certified, the user will hardly have any efforts resulting by that. The module is approved for the operation in Europe and North America and meets the requirements of the WiFi Alliance. This ensures a high interoperability in network structures of different providers.

Despite its extensive features, the module LD-WLM101 is amazingly inexpensive at 28.85 Euro/piece (net, for orders of 50 pieces).
